I’m an independent scholar interested in the hidden history of Texas and Oklahoma. This usually has something to do with race, gender, money, and power in the Jim Crow Era.
I’ve published researched on anti-black police violence, the Tulsa Race Riot of 1921 including the role gender played , Southern black motherhood , community expulsion in north Texas , resistance and seeming-acquiescence to oppression, and the experiences of black women and girls in Jim Crow north Texas .
My work has appeared in the Journal of Black Studies, Great Plains Quarterly, Southern Studies, American Studies Journal, and Journal of South Texas. My new book , “Progress Denied,” is scheduled to be published by the University of North Texas Press on February 15, 2026.
I have worked as an educator since 2005, mostly in public high schools, though I’ve also taught in a private high school, community colleges, an online university, and in my local Adult Ed program.
I hold a PhD in sociology and master’s degree in history from Texas Woman’s University, where I was recognized multiple times for excellence in scholarship during my graduate work.
Recently, I contributed my insights as a historian to the upcoming documentary Quakertown, USA.
Here’s all that written as a CV.
Lastly, I promise I’m a better researcher and writer than a website designer.
